Blog Post 2: Game Lab 1
Of the games I played, I wanted to talk about Klondike Solitaire. I used to play a lot of Klondike Solitaire on my desktop so the game was not new to me, but I never played it physically. I think by physically having the cards in front of me and having to move the cards with my hands, I was more engaged and interested than I would have been had I been on an app on my phone or laptop. I did enjoy playing the game and played multiple rounds, but only wrote a session report for one. I think what I enjoyed most about the game was how it was a pattern building game. I’m a very neat person who likes to organize things, so I think the idea of organizing the cards on top of each other a certain way and sorting them by suite was appealing. Although the session report was tedious and repetitive, it’s helpful in that it tracks how a play through went. It tracks if there were any bugs or unplayable parts to the game. Klondike Solitaire is an old game so it has probably no unplayable parts and since it was in-person it’s not buggy in a technical way either. The session report is boring for Klondike Solitaire, but that wouldn’t be the same for games being developed and tested. A new game with unknown errors undergoing testing with session reports can discover these holes in the game and document them, leading to major changes that will improve the game for future players.
